#1: What should I bring on my first visit to Lucky Dog?
On your first visit to Lucky Dog we will ask you to complete an application and waiver that asks for a local emergency contact as well other basic contact information. We will also ask for current Proof of Vaccinations including Rabies, Bordatella, and DAPP. You may text or email vaccinations in advance if you wish.
If your pet is staying to board at this visit, we also request you bring food for the duration of the visit but no bowls, toys or bedding please. If your pet takes medications or preventatives that they will need while staying, please include those in the original packaging. We provide the rest!
#2: What should I bring for a Daycare visit?
After the initial application, and once we have your vaccines on file, you simply bring your leashed pet for daycare visits!
If your puppy or dog needs a mid day feeding or medications and you plan to pick up late you may include a small portioned bag of food or medication with their name on it, we will feed them and give medicines in their suite at 11am or 4pm only.

#3: Can any dog be a Lucky Dog?
Answer: Yes! Any dog can be a Lucky Dog!
While Lucky Dog is the ideal destination for young, healthy, social pets of all sizes, we are not just a social play facility. We evaluate every guest, and reevaluate on each visit, based on over 20 factors including age, size, breed, spay and neuter status, individual temperament, social temperament, physical ability, stress reactivity, and many many more criteria to find the perfect play group, or private play activities to ensure that every pet has an enjoyable visit to Lucky Dog.
While we love to watch groups of social young pets run and play together, our staff takes great joy in our ability to find the perfect place to scratch, or the perfect amount of one on one attention to make every tail wag in our facility everyday. Even social pets can become overly stimulated, or simply physically tired of playing with the group, especially in the middle of an extended stay, and when this happens we adjust their experience accordingly to provide them with a calm quiet space to relax or some one on one cuddles with staff.
Lucky Dog is owned and it's staff supervised by experienced pet care providers with years of combined experience and medical training. We care for dogs in wheelchairs, amputees, dogs with paralysis, and many other pets who need specialized care. Our willingness to fully customize the experience of each pet based on the requests of the owners who know them best ensures that every dog can be a Lucky Dog.
#4: What if my dog doesn't want to be a Lucky Dog? What if I am miles away? What if my dog bites or tries to escape?
Dogs tend to tell us exactly what they want and what they don't! Not every pet enjoys the environment at Lucky Dog and part of our commitment to Happy, Healthy, Beautiful Pets involves communicating with you on behalf of your pet. We never put profits over pets or people, and a pet who is unhappy in our care is the last thing we want.
The most common case in which we must turn away a potential client, or refuse future bookings is a pet displaying stress induced human aggression, or separation anxiety that endangers the health and safety of your pet. This is incredibly rare and most pet parents know before ever attempting to board that this is a potential issue for their pet. Effective communication is key to the safety of our staff and your pet. We have Special Level 3 Containment for escape artists and numerous behavior inhibiting and staff safety aids in our facility, but you are the best source of information for your pet and preparation is the best prevention when it comes to potential issues during your pet's visit.
The very best way to prevent interruption to your vacation is to utilize our free trial visit in advance of your boarding visit and effectively communicate any and all concerns that you have about your pet before you leave town. It is also very important to ensure we have your local emergency contact and veterinarian information updated every visit so that if your pet becomes a danger to himself or others during his visit we can work with your vet and your trusted emergency contact to make your pet as comfortable as possible until you return home.
We promise that if your pet is for any reason not a candidate for our facility, because they cannot be made to feel comfortable or relaxed, we will immediately let you know and also work with pet professionals in the community to find you the perfect fit for your Lucky Dog. The best time to find the perfect fit is before you leave town on vacation, so if you are in doubt please call to schedule your free evaluation visit today.
#5A: Why don't you accept bedding, bowls, toys and my pet's other items from home?
We get this question often and struggle with the answer every single time! We do not want to offend anyone, but sometimes dogs are messy! To ensure that every single item in your pet's suite can be taken out and truly disinfected daily, we use our bedding, bowls, water buckets, toys, and other comfort items. If your pet or our staff ruin our things, we can simply throw them away, but if Princess shreds her very expensive bed for fun, you may not be so understanding with our team.
Additionally, while YOUR home may be spotless and your pet's belongings immaculately cleaned and sanitized before your visit, our staff has no way of knowing what microscopic bacteria or allergens are hitching a ride on belongings and if we accept yours, we have to accept everyone's. We love our guests and want to eliminate every possible risk to their health and safety, our policy on belongings from home is the safest and most effective way to do so. We hope you understand.
#5B It's okay, I don't care if it gets lost or ruined, my pet needs her special slow feeder, orthopedic bed, kong toy, and this irreplaceable comfort item. Can I bring them?
That is no problem! We have Slow Feeders, Kong Wobblers, Orthopedic Bedding, Kong Puppy/Adult toys, Nyla bones, puzzle feeders, washable stuffed animals, and so much more here at Lucky Dog for your pet to use, no need to bring them from home.
If you insist that you must bring that irreplaceable comfort item, please do so with the complete understanding that we are not liable for it's loss or destruction, and we may decide to vacuum seal it into a bag and have it awaiting your arrival if we think it poses a threat to the sanitation or safety of our facility. Again, Thank you for understanding.
#6 Is someone always at Lucky Dog? Can I pick up after hours?
Lucky Dog Company is not open 24 hours and the owners sometimes do leave the property, even though they live next door. Fortunately, Lucky Dog uses innovative technology to meet the scheduling needs of a variety of clients, coded entry is just one way we do this. Our front door can be unlocked for limited access after hours using a 4 digit code, provided to approved clients, so that even when staff is unavailable, pet parents can drop off or pick up their pets. The business owners live next door to the facility, and can supervise activity through the motion activated camera system without leaving the comfort of home unless needed. By utilizing this technology, the owners can also monitor the facility and your pets all the time, from anywhere, and know immediately if their attention is needed through motion activated alert settings within the security and monitoring system.
